Remembering Sam Mesnick, z"l

The JCC East Bay mourns the loss of Sam Mesnick. Sam was a founding board member of the Berkeley-Richmond JCC, which ultimately became the JCC East Bay. He was a dear JCC supporter and adviser and will be missed.

In 2016, Sam Mesnick was honored with the inaugural JCC East Bay Community Leadership Award. He was presented with the award at the JCC’s annual Mensch Party.

Sam's family has asked that donations be made to the Sam Mesnick Memorial Fund at the JCC East Bay. Donations can be made online here or by mailing a check payable to JCC East Bay, 1414 Walnut St, Berkeley, CA 94709 and writing Sam Mesnick Memorial Fund in the memo line.

May Sam's memory be a blessing.

$1 Million Matching Grant from Taube Philanthropies

The JCC East Bay is thrilled and honored to announce a $1 million grant from Taube Philanthropies. This transformational grant will support the JCC’s programmatic and physical expansion, and is a matching gift to encourage our community to join in the effort.

With this grant, and the matching funds from other generous donors, the JCC East Bay will expand key programs, reach new audiences, and secure our long-term future. We will create an inspiring home that connects people to Jewish life, now and for generations to come.

Taube Philanthropies was established in 1981 by its founder and chairman, Tad Taube. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the foundation makes philanthropic investments in civic, and cultural life in both the Jewish and non-Jewish communities in the Bay Area, Poland, and Israel. Its grant making programs support institution-building, heritage preservation, arts, culture, and education, and promotion of Jewish Peoplehood. Taube Philanthropies is committed to collaborative grant making for greater charitable impact and actively partners with numerous philanthropic organizations and individuals.

The JCC East Bay is deeply grateful to Tad Taube for his leadership and vision at this pivotal moment for East Bay Jewish life!
