Registration

Both the Berkeley and Oakland Afterschool Programs provide School's Out! Programming for students on most school holidays, vacation weeks (including Back to School Camp, Winter Break & Spring Break Camps), and professional development days. We offer all-day programming, 8:00am-6:00pm, and week-long camps, with fun activities like bowling, ice skating, and laser tag, as well as field trips to exciting destinations like museums, arcades, and parks.  All days include onsite activities and games as well as outside play (weather permitting). Check the dates below for a quick description of what’s going on that day. Sign up early to avoid the late registration fee.

**When there are multiple activities offered for a School’s Out Day, please pick each activity only once. If you select an activity more then once we will change the activity at our discretion.

Staff Development Day (AUSD):


March 22 – Chabot Space and Science Center (AUSD) A universe of possibilities awaits you on our trip to Chabot Space and Science Center. Real scientists and explorers of the cosmos share all kinds of amazing experiments with us during this out-of-this-world experience!

 

Oakland Spring Break:

March 25 – Lawrence Hall of Science (OUSD)
Ride a whale, climb inside giant DNA, crawl through a kaleidoscope at the Lawrence Hall of Science! Become a scientist: investigate how the Bay was shaped over time; hypothesize, experiment and play with physics and earth systems all day together. See you there!

March 27 – Oakland Museum (OUSD)
How much do you know about the state we live in? What makes California so special? Spend the day learning about the creative and innovative art that has come from the great state of California. Learn about the culture and people that make up our history and see why California is one of the greatest biologically diverse places in the nation.

March 28 – Tilden Park (OUSD)
Do you love to spend time outdoors or spend time with animals? We will spend the day feeding the animals, playing games and hiking in the great outdoors. Bring lettuce and Celery to feed to the animals!

March 29 – MOCHA (OUSD)
Join us for an educational and engaging hands-on art experience with MOCHA, the Museum of Children’s Art, We will explore creativity through art! At MOCHA we will participate in an interactive art lesson led by a Teaching Artist, and have a guided tour of the museum. In the words of Daniel, a fourth grade artist: “Art is all around you. Everything is art and there are many ways to make art.\

April 1 – Adventure Playground (OUSD)
Come build and play at Adventure Playground. Climb on towers, forts, and boats or design, saw and paint. Come in your sturdiest shoes (tennis shoes will do!) and old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty as we help design and bring to life our own adventure.

 

Berkeley Spring Break:

April 2 – Adventure Playground or BBQ at the Park (AUSD, WCCUSD)
Field Trip: Adventure Playground Have you ever wanted to build your own fort? What about ride on a zip line? If you answered yes to any of the above, join us on our trip to Adventure Playground where we’ll get to use real tools (in a real safe way) to work on our own constructions.
OR
On site: BBQ and messy experiment time at the park.Come with us to Codornices Park where we’ll be exploring nature, grilling a delicious lunch and doing science experiments that are so messy they can only be done outside.

April 3 – Lindsay Wildlife Museum or Fun with Food Science (AUSD, WCCUSD)
Field Trip: Lindsay Wildlife Museum: This amazing museum is home to all kinds of critters that call the Bay Area home. You’ll get to see deer, hawks, and bobcats in their natural element during this awesome trip.
OR
On site: Fun with Food Science. Ever wonder what happens when you put marshmallows in the microwave or how to make Ice cream in a bag? Come find out how food is made and much more as we cook up some fun fact finding experiments in the kitchen and probably make a giant delicious mess as we go!

April 5 - Pacific Pinball Museum (AUSD)
Prove that you’re a real pinball wizard as we explore the biggest collection of pinball machines on the west coast. If that doesn’t sound cool enough, you also won’t need to use any quarters!

April 16 – Pump It Up (AUSD) Pump it up boasts private indoor arenas, filled with gigantic inflatable slides, bounce houses, obstacle courses and more. Join us for an exciting day of bouncing off the walls!

April 17 –  Lindsay Wildlife Museum  (AUSD)
This amazing museum is home to all kinds of critters that call the Bay Area home. You’ll get to see deer, hawks, and bobcats in their natural element during this awesome trip.

April 18 – Mini Golf (AUSD)
Whether it’s your first time golfing or you’re a regular Arnold Palmer, all are welcome as we spend the afternoon put-putting to our heart’s content.

April 19 – The Jungle in Concord (AUSD)
If you like to stomp like an elephant, roar like a lion, or nap like a sloth, you should definitely come along to the one place that let’s you do all these things and more.

May 20 – Spring Carnival (BUSD)
Join us for a day of carnival fun to celebrate spring. We’ll be rocking out to our favorite tunes, playing carnival games and of course bouncing around in an inflatable obstacle course and/or bouncy castle. It’s going to be great! Don’t miss it!

Other Oakland Dates:

May 24 – Pacific Pinball Museum (OUSD)
We will experience first hand a little known, yet mesmerizing part of American culture at the Pinball Museum. Learn about art, science and history through the world of pinball, with close to 100 historic games to play.

June 14 – Cull Canyon (OUSD)
Bring your bathing suits because we are going for a swim! At Cull Canyon, an oldie but a goodie, we will build sand castles, jump off the dock and have a picnic lunch in the sun. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
