Shir Ha Shirim

The Song of Songs Minyan comes together for a Kabbalat Shabbat Service for egalitarian Jewish spiritual practice. Uniting the musical liturgy of Sephardic, Mizrachi & Ashkenazi traditions, the service focuses on the rich content of Jewish sacred music, poetry & prayer from around the world.

2nd Friday of the month; 7:30pm; November 10, December 8.

Shabbat Morning Services Aquarian Minyan

Monthly series of Shabbat morning services at the JCCEB. The Minyan is known for its profound, creative High Holy Days services which are co-created by Minyan members and friends. These Shabbat services will provide a year-round opportunity to experience and participate in a musical, celebratory worship experience presented in the spirit of “renewing the old and making holy the new.” Services will be followed by a vegetarian potluck lunch. Call Shoshana at 510-848-1343 to volunteer to help with service leadership, set up, or clean up.

Modern Hebrew Recharge: Beginning and Intermediateand Prayerbook Hebrew Recharge

Beginning level review for Modern Hebrew (10am-1pm). Intermediate level (2-5pm) will review more complex conversation, grammar and additional vocabulary.

For individuals with little or no knowledge of the Hebrew alphabet, grammar or vocabulary. Required text: Hebrew from Scratch available at the first class for $35. Ilan Vitemberg is the director of the Diller Teen Fellows program and a Teen Program Consultant at the Bureau of Jewish Education in San Francisco.

Discover the Romaniot, the Mizrachim and other Jewish groups that don’t fit into the Ashkenazi or Sephardi molds including the Ethiopian ‘Beta Israel’ community and Tadjiki Jews of Central Asia. Ken Blady is Educator, Yiddish Translator and Eastern European Historian.

Splendor of Sephorad with Leah Shelleda

Sepharad was a sublime culture created by Jews, Muslims and Christians. Their accomplishments in science, literature and philosophy became the basis for the European Renaissance. Through lecture, discussion, music and images explore how three religions worked and lived together, the Jewish courtier-rabbis, poets, philosophers and statesmen, the role art, music and architecture played and what we can learn from the Sephardim. Leah Shelleda is a cultural historian and Professor Emerita of Humanities and Philosophy at the College of Marin.
