Olam YeladimCHUGIM A-JAikido This peaceful, fluid martial art teaches your children better balance and coordination while instilling respect and compassion. All kids will enjoy this rewarding, non-competitive atmosphere that also teaches them discipline and an appreciation of physical fitness. Participants will be going to the Realworld Personal Defense Dojo located at 654 Oakland Ave. Bay Area Parks Once again it is that time of year, time to discover all the wonderful parks in our area. Sundara is very excited to show kids all her favorite parks and to play football, capture the flag, sardines and so many other games. What better way to come back after the weekend than enjoying a couple hours outside. Bubbles and Chalk What better way to get a jump on summer then playing with bubbles and creating beautiful art with chalk. Chess Club Have you always wanted to learn a game that used your mind, imagination and tons of strategy? Now is your chance! Learn the basics of an amazing game, practice your skills, moves and have fun playing with other kids in the club. Organized tournaments and events will evolve as the group masters their chess playing skills. City Lights Internship (5+)Kids in Grades 5 and above may choose to be an official intern for a class of your choice. You will help motivate the younger participants and assist the instructor for a class that you feel experienced in. You just choose the class and come talk to Josh! City Lights Kids do not pay materials fees. Comic Book Club Whaaaaack! BAAAANNNG! POWWWWWWWWW! Comic Book Club offers the starving artist in all of us a chance to get your work out there and known. Learn to draw awesome comic book heroes and villains, while being able to accompany your adventures with dialogue of your choosing. All of which will be presented at the next Chugim Fair, and possibly beyond. Computers Are you afraid of computers? Do you think the Internet is something used to catch fish? Don’t know how to turn one on much less start programs and play games? This is the chug for you. We will learn the basics of computer use, play games and surf the net for some of our favorite sites. Cooks in Action Have you ever wanted to wear a big white hat, have flour on your face and have fun fun fun? The Master Chefs of the J will impart their knowledge and together we will focus on making and baking yummy treats. Artwork and personal anecdotes will help decorate a cookbook designed specifically by you! Bring us your tired, your hungry...we’ll cook for them! The best part of all is that you EAT your creations!! Creative Concoctions This is a cooking class for snackers. We will make all sorts of fun edible concoctions- among them: fondue, tropical fruit salad, guacamole and chips, seven layer bars, and blueberry smoothies and so much more. If you like to eat and snack doesn’t fill you up then this is the place for you. Drawing and Coloring The stepping-stones to all the arts. Kids will get to doodle, sketch and draw to their heart’s content. We’ll use pastels, pencils, pens, charcoal, markers, colored pencils and crayons on a variety of surfaces. In addition we will also be creating our own personal coloring books. Fuse Beads A whole class devoted to fuse beads! This is the class for you if you like creating wonderful works of art. We will be making magnets, pins, window decorations, jewelry and so much more with this fantastic art medium. GA-GA Master the skills of O.Y.’s most popular game. We will learn strategies of Ga-Ga, the special skills needed to stay in the game, the history of Israeli dodge ball and play in tournaments. Kids who complete the class will also earn their referee card; this card will allow them to referee games at O.Y.. Gifts and Gadgets In this Chug we will be making gifts for all the loved ones in your life. Never be without a fabulous handmade gift to give that special someone. Students will learn how to make useful and artistic items like soap, candles, picture frames, magnets, wrapping paper and so much more. Guitar Due to the overwhelming request from parents, we are now offering private half-hour lessons taught by Gerry Tenney a former OY parent. Please provide your own guitar. Gymnastics This athletic program in progressive gymnastics is open to children of all abilities. In a supportive, non-competitive setting, participants will build ease of movement, strength, flexibility and balance. Exercises will include traditional gymnastics (tumbling, vault, beam, and rings), body mechanics, locomotor skills, coordination building and autonomy. This workshop will also work on performance techniques to be demonstrated at the Chugim Fair. Kids will not return to JCS until 5:15. Homework Club Participants in this workshop will receive help on their homework. The counselor will provide assistance and endeavors to make sure that participants complete their homework. On days with no homework we will provide age appropriate worksheets to complete. Ice Skating Join us for an afternoon of ice-skating at Oakland’s own US Ice Center. Skaters will be broken up by skill level for a half-hour of lessons by trained US Ice Center instructors. They will also enjoy a half-hour of free skate. Children will be transported to the US Ice Center in our CHP certified vans and will be supervised by OY Staff at all times. Jewish Holiday Fun There are lots of fun holidays approaching that require lots of celebration. Purim, Passover and Yom Ha’atzmaut are a just a few of them. Come learn about what makes these and other holidays special while creating fun crafts. Jump Rope Fun Yes, an entire class devoted to jumping rope. We will be learning new songs and singing some of our old favorites while jumping. We will also be learning how to Double Dutch, so if you like to jump this is for you. Just Desserts If you haven’t already participated in this class, this is your last chance for the year. If you have a sweet tooth and are a chocolate lover then this is the place for you.
