Holidays

Throughout the year many holiday events are held at the JCC East Bay as a place to gather, learn, and celebrate. Some of these holidays include Purim, Passover, Shavuot, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Hanukah. We hope you'll join us for the variety of celebrations and services we offer for each holiday.

Purim Festival

Presented with Camp Tawonga and Jewish Gateways

Sunday, March 20

Location: Berkeley Branch

Put on your costume and join the festivities at our annual Purim celebration! Enjoy games, holiday crafts, a parade, and a Purim shpiel with groggers (noise-makers).

 

Holiday Preparation – Dare to Prepare: Reaching Towards the Outstretched Arm

Join The Jewish Studio Project and the JCC for an evening of collaborative learning and hands-on creativity that will get you ready for the Festival of Freedom, Passover.

First Night Family Seders

Friday, April 22

Time: 5:00-6:15 pm

Two Locations:

Berkeley Branch: Led by Rabbi Bridget Wynne of Jewish Gateways

Oakland Branch: Led by Rabbi Michael Rothbaum and Musician Anthony Russell

Fee: $28/Adults (over 14 years), $15 (2-13 years)

Bring the whole family and enjoy a kid-friendly ceremony and meal. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends or invite families you know!

 

First Night Community Seders

Friday, April 23

Time: 7:30-9:30 pm

Two locations:

Berkeley Branch: Led by Rabbi Bridget Wynne of Jewish Gateways

Oakland Branch: Led by Rabbi Michael Rothbaum and Musician Anthony Russell

Fee: $42 Member (and Seniors and Students) / $62 Non-Member

Experience a lively, celebratory seder with a delicious meal of chicken, matzo ball soup, and wine, of course. All are welcome!

 

Annual Tikkun Leyl Shavuot

Saturday, June 11 – Sunday, June 12

Time: 6:15 pm – 7:00 am

Special family programming: 6:15-7:15 pm.

This is a unique event not-to-be-missed. In “big tent” style, you will engage in a full night of learning with hundreds of diverse people. Experienced teachers will lead participants in hour-long study sessions interspersed with worship and kosher snacks.

Join leader Ron Feldman and songleader Achi Ben Shalom for unique multi-media programs from every major Jewish holiday.
