Join us for a stunning theatrical event under the JCC’s sukkah, followed by a community discussion. A brilliant Shakespeare scholar, descending into dementia, believes herself to be King Lear and will interact only in the language of that play. Together, she and her caretaker daughter deploy the humor and poetry of Shakespeare to navigate the struggles of family, aging, and mortality. Following the one-hour performance, Shoshana Berger, editorial director of IDEO, will facilitate an intimate conversation on the ideas around death and dying sparked by the performance.
We Players presents site-integrated performance events that bring communities together, reclaiming local spaces for public discourse and civic celebration through art.
Shoshana Berger got her start writing for a magazine called Bikini, which led to writing for The New York Times, SPIN, and WIRED. She is the founder of the National Magazine Award finalist ReadyMade. She has been the editorial director of IDEO since 2013.
