By Dan Wolf with music by Tommy Shepherd

A work-in-progress reading of a new hip-hop show based on Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice.” Curren$y features an all-female cast of eight rapper/actors who flip gender, religion, racism, classism, survival, fame, fortune, and financial collapse on it's head. Curren$y uses rap, rhyming verse, and live beats to look at the way we beg, borrow and steal for cultural capital. Sometimes it takes more than a pound of flesh.

Featuring Ryan Nicole, Brit Frazier, Delina Patrice, Tristan Cunningham, Dyanna Loeb, Hazel Rose, Meagan Wells. Written and Directed by Dan Wolf
Music by Tommy Shepherd and Keith Pinto
Assistant Director/Dramaturge/Stage Management by Ashley Smiley

Dan Wolf is an actor, rapper, playwright, director, producer and educator. His work crosses artistic and cultural borders to combine conventional theater styles with the themes, language, music, history, politics, and aesthetics of the Hip-Hop generation.
