Club J - Berkeley Program (4th and 5th Grades)
One of our afterschool programs, Club J, caters exclusively to the 4th and 5th graders of our community. Focused on building leadership skills, this structured program allows for plenty of opportunities to stay engaged in an experiential climate. Teachers focus on fostering interests while allowing autonomy for the children. The classes challenge kids to identify their strengths while aging up.
Opportunities for inside and outside activities in Berkeley are abundant; Live Oak Park provides the chance to play a myriad of sports, shoot some hoops, bound through the playground, and even construct a dam in the creek as a way to focus their abundant exuberance. This diverse program has a small student to teacher ratio and helps the students challenge themselves and grow.
Chugim (Enrichment Classes)
Club J offers over 30 chugim (enrichment classes) each session to our enrolled students. We have access to the onsite playground, field and bustling creek. We provide a variety topics to choose from: cooking, arts and crafts, science and nature exploration, breakdancing, and yearbook are all offered as possible classes for your child to enjoy! Many of our classes are taught by our own staff while some are contracted out to professionals within the community. With such a variety of chugim, there is a little something for everyone in Club J!
School Districts and Transportation
We serve students in the Berkeley and Albany school districts, and offer all-day programming for most school district holidays and vacations. Transportation to the JCC Afterschool-Berkeley Program is provided by the Berkeley Unified School District as well as our own van service. All of our vans and drivers are Youth Bus certified through the California Highway Patrol and all passengers are required to wear seat belts.
